Heal with HeARTS (HWH) creates project-based learning unique to a school's curriculum. Teachers plan and Integrate the Visual and Performing Arts into academic areas including Science, History, Mathematics, Technology, and Language Arts. Local artists and teachers specialize in modeling, demonstrating, and teaching their expertise in their specific craft to students.
MUSC Children's Hospital: We have partnered with the Children's Hospital to bring the expressive art and music therapy to the patients and their families. The Atrium room is a beautiful room in the hospital to meet with current patients during their stay . We set up a music and art area for students to express themselves, create artwork , play various musical instruments, and receive art supplies for their rooms.
Ferndale Community Center : We have partnered with Deninefay Dance Company to create murals for their dance and drumming performances in the community. We meet in N. Charleston to practice their dancing, drumming, and painting. We have 6 lead teachers to mentor and facilitate leadership, education, and community outreach.
Kids' Drum Circle at The Charleston Pour House: Once a month, HWH hosts a kids' drum circle facilitated by 2 musicians on the deck at the Charleston Pour House. It provides an opportunity for the James Island community to come together and learn a musical instrument from a professional. Teachers incorporate the National Music Education Standards and Skills in their lesson.
We are excited to share more art, dance, and music education in the Charleston community, stay tuned for new programs this Spring and Summer.
